Bible Boy Brings Luck

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN. - A white out day brings the planes to the ground, thus a chance for complete strangers to meet. This was the case today as Joe Klosterman’s plane was grounded due to the winter storm moving through the area. Instead of missing the game and letting his team down Joe rented a car and drove through treatourous weather to sneak into town just before the face-off. Joe met a complete stranger, a truck driver and a bible man who found true love on e-harmony.com. One has to wonder what was said in the car journey of five hours because Joe brought his “A” game tonight in a very convincing 3-0 win for team white enroute to the first shut-out of the year.

Bob huot got things started for team white mid way through the Miller game when he picked off an errant Brandt clearing attempt and snuck one off the far right post past Shoan Nelson for a 1-0 lead. It wouldn’t take long for Bucky Covington to make it 2-0 with a wicked wrister that found its way through a narrow five hole. The Green giant needled a pass through heavy traffic to find Bucky who rarely makes mistakes in (his office) the slot.

A pissed off Blair Lund lead to the final goal. Bob Huot who would like to remain anonymous said anonymously “it’s kinda hard to see anything when your heads down all the time.” Blair appeared to be flying to the offensive zone when he threw the breaks on when he apparently thought they were going to be called offside (NO ONE WAS OFFSIDE) and whistled a puck at Shoan Nelson. Nelson couldn’t handle this wicked way off the mark spazzing shot and it found its way to the far boards where team dark was able to handle it and bring down for a golden opportunity to cut the lead to one; however Haugen was unable to pull the trigger.

It was at that time that Mr. Green (Derek Lee) threw a pass/shot up the boards blindly however the Pollock knocked it down quite surprisingly but couldn’t handle it and it went to a sleeping Huot that somehow snuck behind everyone and slithered the puck 5-hole on Shoan to put an early night to team darks hope’s of a big comeback.

Klosterman was brilliant all night long and stole the show in the Miller game as well as he stopped all shots he faced to earn the Busch light 1st star of the night.

3 Stars of the night brought to you by (Club Legion) Aka the office:

3rd – Bucky Covington
2nd – Bob “Anonymous” Huot
1st – Joe Klosterman

Key Notes

Iron Lung or the Great Lung was caught drinking after practice at the legion. Is this a fine? We’ll let the blog sort this one out.

Brian (the bartender) had more popcorn made than we knew what to do with, but the trouble is he’s a dude and doesn’t get a star. Possibly a step ladder to his truck though?

Well we wish the prowlers good luck tomorrow night as well as the Bantam A’s in Fergus Falls for VFW play as well as the Squirts in there big tournament in Fargo. All other teams that are not mentioned we wish you all the best as well.

Oldtimers practice next week has been canceled in hopes that we all head up to support our Prowlers in what were all hoping for is a TRF Vs. Warroad final and a berth to the stat hockey tournament.

SURPRISE SUPRISE

Thief River Falls, MN – Yep that’s right. Tom Goddard (former WCHA ref) was right back in the thick of things. In his first appearance in years he managed to steal the headlines in quite fashion. Not only did he make a very controversial penalty shot call against former Ram Tim Magnusson, he took the penalty shot himself. Goddard a guy that smells blood in the water took the opportunity to sink the dark team into a hole that they couldn't seek themselves out of. He showed signs of brilliance as he skated in and faked a shot where he pulled Genereux to his knees and walked around him to bury it into an empty net to put the white team up 2-1 en rout to a 3-1 win.
Team white got on the board first as Brandt took a goal mouth feed and tried to go around Genereux but threw the brakes on as he slid Genereux to the far post and tucked it by his right pad to put white up 1-0. Brian Berzinski appeared to make it 2-0 just seconds later however Mags called for an immediate video replay that was sent to Toronto and it was ruled the net came off it’s just before the puck crossed the goal line.

Mr. I was Green before Green was in, (Derek Lee) took a feed from the right corner and managed to get one past two goalies. Brandt slid to block the shot but like usual it missed him and found it’s way through traffic and beat a red hot Joe Clausterman to even things up at one a piece.

This is when the controversial play took place. It proved to be a very pivotal time in the game where Mag’s who was pushed, or slipped into the net got called on a mediocre penalty shot. TG immediately threw his hands behind his head signaling a penalty shot. Mags insisted that it was not intentional and that he was pushed into the net and that he hasn’t had his skates sharpened in a year, however there was no negotiating on this call as Goddard headed to center ice. (Coaches decision said if Mags doesn’t bring a skate sharpening receipt to practice next thirsty Thursday it would be a case fine.)

RJ managed to send the dark team to the showers just seconds later as he tried sending a tip pass to a streaking Brandt however, “like normal” he was way off his mark but it managed to fool Genereux and found its way through his legs to end up as the game winner. It proved to be his first game winner since he’s joined the Prowler old timer’s league.

Key notes:

Iron Lung’s streak was snapped at 99 consecutive games without missing a shift. (Should he now be called the Great One?)
Tim Delmore was back in town tonight, however Domino's pizza was not delivered to the office due to all the fresh popcorn.

3 Stars of the Night (Brought to you by: Club Legion ( AKA: The Office)
3rd R.J. Netting the game ending goal
2nd Jill from the Legion for all the freshly made popcorn
1st Tom Goddard for the correct/bogus call and goal

Come out and support your TRFAHA BANTAM A’s as we take on the EGF Greenwave tonight at 6:00 at the REA for district tournament play.

See you at the rink!

BREILAND'S BACK

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN - Tonight's game at the Ralph Engelstad Arena featured a couple new tenders between the pipes one of which was stellar in the dark win and one who was as rusty as his skates. The game started as a sell out crowd of (18) were on hand to watch this intense rivalry however as the game went on the fans dwindled into the cold night.

Iron Lung Chuck Lundgren, CPA, (Certified Public Accountant) finally dashed out of his slump by undressing Brandt for his first goal of the year. However Chuck had a golden opportunity to double his goal production on a penalty shot, but was caught with his head down when a leaping Brandt caught him by surprise and poked the puck off his stick before he could pull the trigger.

The teams played a tic tac toe game the whole night before Jim Breiland ended all hopes for the white team as he let a twisted wrister go through a screen that beat Brandt low blocker. The shot was so vicious that Brandt was caught saying "I'm glad I didn't get a piece of it knowing the magnitude of the power behind that shot, Jimmy's one hell of a player and were all just happy he's back with us."

After the game it was determined that Iron Lung was fined a case and he threw on an additional case penalty this morning so we'll enjoy beers on Chuck next week. See you all at the rink!
