Prowlers take team title on EGF course

East Grand Forks, MN - Beating the weather and nine other teams, Thief River Falls came up with a title-winning effort Thursday at the East Grand Forks Invitational boys high school varsity golf tournament.

"This part of the course is long, but very wide open," reported Rick Johnson, who works with Tim Magnusson as the Prowlers' first-year co-head coaches. "They fought through the conditions to get the first team medal of the year." "Blind shots and tough greens gave our golfers some trouble," reported Johnson. "We have had some confidence issues when we are not familiar with the course. We seem to be a little unsure of shot selection when we are away from our home course."

"One things for sure, thankfully the boys are better golfers than the coaches" joked Head Coach of the old timers Al Gus.

The TRF School District has announced new golf co-head coaches

Thief River Falls, MN - ISD #564 Athletic Director has announced the hiring of two of the area's finest coaches available to coach this years Golf team. RJ Johnson aka Larry and Mags aka Chuck. When asked how he was able to land this type of talent Mr. Biermaier simply said "this was just a pure gift from above, you don't find this type of talent anywhere in the United States and to have two of the premier golfers in this region step up and take the bull by the horns like these two fine lads will do is a A.D.'s dream. I couldn't be more excited to see the two escalate this team to stardom."

When asked who would be in charge Mr. Johnson said "clearly I'm the better golfer here so all decision's will be finalized by myself. Although Mr. Magnusson is a heck of a player he doesn't have my abilities around the green which is where I will shine in my teaching. I do look forward to his tutelage with the kids on how to hit his massive long ball like he's known for, but as we all know drive for show, putt for doe."

When Mr. Maggnuson heard R.J.'s quotes here what he had to say. "R.J.'s just being R.J. I'm clearly the best coach the state has seen. I'll let my coaching abilities do the talking and when the year end awards are presented you'll see who stands alone on the podium."

TRF Oldtimers Whip Whitey's

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The TRF Oldtimers made the trek down to the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Chanc Keef's debut in front of a sold out announced crowd of 11,640 to upend Whitey's 15-5. The game was never close as the TRF Oldtimers jumped out to a 5 goal lead and never looked back.

Kaine Martell got things started with two quick sharp angle shots that found the twine. After discovering Whitey's weakness TRF was able to get pucks to the net and have a lot of success.

Martell and Mark Haugen managed to get tied up with the enforcer of the Grand Forks league and it clearly threw Haugen for a loop. Haugen was often caught blowing snow and pulling up early when the enforcer was near him. After a rubbed check by Haugen the enforcer dumped Haugen to his knees in what looked like was going to be a full out tilt however Haugen managed to hold his composer.

Not to be outdone was Mr. Bucky Lansing with a two goal night. Bucky didn't show up until midway through the second period because of the TRF High School game going into overtime but he made his presence felt when he hit the bright lights of the Ralph. They say the stars shine bright under the big lights and Bucky answered a lot of critics with his play tonight.

Afterwards good times were had at Whitey's for a quick pop and than it was on the road home for a 1:00 a.m. arrival back in TRF. Great showing from the TRF Oldtimers with 14 players. 3 lines, 2 sets of D and 1 goalie.

No practice this Thursday night. Make sure you get a jog in over the weekend and possibly a light skate in or attended the city league games on Sunday night.

Coach "Al"
wanted me to remind everyone that playoffs are right around the corner and roster deadlines are getting close so it's important to stay committed. A Big thanks for the drivers last night!! Keep your beer on ice!!
